Grant Foster’s babbling again …

Joe Posnanski’s blog: It’s just as good as his newspaper work, maybe better

Posted in Baseball, Good writing, Sports by Grant Foster on July 21st, 2008

Until just now, I had no idea that Kansas City Star sports columnist Joe Posnanski had his own blog. Even more impressive is this: the articles on his blog are things he writes “just for fun” on his own time.

To borrow from an occasional friend of mine, the dude’s an f’n’ stud. America’s best sports columnist, without exception. The fact that he gets no love from ESPN is a tragedy.

Read it. Digg it. Love it. Poz is the man.

The whole Musial triple story in 1952 appears to be a fairy tale. If it happened, it didn’t happen in 1952 (no such game matches the fact pattern, i.e. Musial drives in three in the ninth to win a game at home against the Dodgers). Solly Hemus wasn’t the manager until 1959, by which time the Dodgers were in LA. No game that Ben Wade pitched in against the Cardinals for the Dodgers matches the fact pattern. No game in any year that Wade pitched for the Dodgers (52-54) matches the fact pattern. And really, guys were getting thrown out left and right and Musial didn’t even know what the call was?

    Other than that, terrific story.

That’s unfortunate. Perhaps the story is apocryphal.

Hope you mentioned the same thing on Posnanski’s site.
